Presentation
Gerard Denizeau, author recognized for his works on the World Heritage presents us his selection of the most beautiful cities among the 239 cities registered on the list of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC). These 20 selected cities illustrate and synthesize perfectly the monumental and architectural jewels of the five continents.
The history of the city - major events and other striking historical facts - are all recalled, along with details relating to their construction... A special place is reserved to those men and women whose names are associated with the city. The Most Beautiful World Heritage Cities invites us to delve into the very heart of the monumental and architectural inheritance which these gems of civilization offer. A rich and detailed text, written by a recognized world heritage specialist, is augmented by framed explanatory texts that present the listed monuments of each city under various headings, plus details on the stakes of their safeguarding.
To this unique presentation are added relevant elements relating to the cities’ future development, economy and specificities - in particular their cultural character. Additional sections provide complimentary and practical information (climate, population, town councilors, twin towns…).
